Baltimore Police union reports fundraising account suspended

BALTIMORE (MEDIA GENERAL) – Ever since Maryland’s State Attorney announced charges against six Baltimore police officers in the death of Freddie Gray, Baltimore’s Fraternal Order of Police has publicly voiced support of its officers.

“Let me begin by stating how appalled and frustrated we are at this morning’s events and the information announced by State’s Attorney Mosby,” Gene Ryan, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 3, said in a statement. “We are disappointed in an apparent rush to judgement given the fact that the investigation into this matter has not been concluded.”

Ryan promised to work to support all active duty officers. Earlier Friday, the union posted a link on Twitter to a GoFundMe account to raise money for its officers. Not long after that link was posted, another post said that GoFundMe had shut down the effort.

GoFundMe.com spokesperson Kelsea Little told CBS News that the account violated the terms of the fundraising site because it stated the money would be used to help the accused officers with their legal costs.
