LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The identity of the man found dead on 14th Street in Lafayette Thursday morning has been released.

Lafayette police said the body was that of 38-year-old Joseph Gregg of Muncie, Ind. Police said according to autopsy results Friday morning, there was no signs of trauma found.

Police said the cause of death is still pending as they are awaiting toxicology results, which officials said could take up to six weeks.

The incident occurred Thursday morning around 7 a.m. when a passerby called in a report of a body found on the sidewalk wrapped in a nylon material. Lafayette police said Thursday that the body showed no signs of foul play or trauma.

“I can’t speculate as to the cause of death,” Lafayette Police Lt. Brad Hayworth told WLFI-TV Thursday morning.

Neighbors said they were surprised to see this situation happening. None of the residents were sure who lived in the home near the body or what may have occurred.
