Purdue’s Ryan Russell Selected by Dallas in NFL Draft

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Purdue saw its streak extend to 18 consecutive years with at least one player getting selected in the NFL Draft when defensive end Ryan Russell was taken by Dallas with the 163rd overall pick in the fifth round on Saturday.

Russell, who started 47 of his 50 collegiate games, wrapped up his Boilermaker career with 149 total tackles, including 101 solo stops, 25.0 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks, four fumbles forced, four fumbles recovered and two PBUs. The sack total is tied for 19th all-time in school history.

Russell is the ninth Boilermaker defensive end drafted in the last 18 years and the first since Ryan Kerrigan was selected No. 16 overall in the 2011 draft.

Russell came to Purdue from Creekview High School in Carrollton, Texas.
