Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at IMS

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — Vintage race cars rounded the oval at speeds of more than 130 miles-per-hour at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Wednesday.

It’s all in honor of the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at IMS this week.

About 500 vintage cars will compete.

33 former Indianapolis 500 drivers will practice Friday and race on Saturday in the Pro-Am event.

And, for the first time ever, five members of the Unser family will drive on the IMS oval at the same time on Sunday.

Al, Bobby, Al Jr., Robby, and Johnny Unser will all drive in vintage cars.

They will compete in the Vintage/Classic Enduro race on Sunday.

The IMS allowed members of the media to ride in the vintage cars.

WISH-TV’s Lori Wilson got to ride with Pro Driver John Martin, in a 1963 split window corvette.

There are several events surrounding the invitational including a concert Saturday night at the Pagoda, and a fan walk.
