Indiana craft distillers are making major in-roads with their high-quality spirits
You’ve been to a brewery, you’ve been to a winery, now, try a distillery. Cardinal Spirits is a new craft distillery and tasting room in Bloomington, Indiana.
The distillery opened its doors in February of 2015. They produce all of our own spirits from raw materials sourced from Indiana when possible and do everything in house; ferment, distill, filter, and bottle. They currently have 5 products; vodka, American gin, coffee liqueur, white oak whiskey (un-aged), and this Saturday will be releasing their traditional London Dry style of gin. Cardinal Spirits distributes around the state including Indianapolis, but viewers are welcome to visit the tasting room for samples, cocktails, food, and tours!

1/2 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
2 ounces Cardinal Spirits Vodka
4 to 6 ounces ginger beer
Cooper mug
Squeeze lime juice into the mug. Add ice cubes, then pour in the vodka and fill with cold ginger beer (not ginger ale, we use Barritt’s). Stir and serve. Can also be batched to make for a group. Just mix the vodka and lime juice and have guests pour the ginger beer.Cafe A l’orange
1.5 ounces Songbird Craft Coffee Liqueur
1.5 ounces Cardinal Spirits Vodka
Combine ingredients and shake vigorously with ice. Strain into an old fashioned
glass with a large ice cube. Express and garnish with an orange peel.WHISKEY-RITA
2 ounces Cardinal Spirits White Oak Whiskey
3/4 ounce triple sec or dry curacao
3/4 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
1/4 ounce simple syrup
Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice.
Shake, then strain into a coupe glass.
