Thousands remain without power in Fort Wayne area

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) – Several thousand homes and businesses in the Fort Wayne area remain without electricity two days after a storm swept through the area.

Indiana Michigan Power Co. says about 7,500 customers were awaiting repairs Monday morning in Fort Wayne and nearby areas. That’s down from more than 30,000 outages after the storm hit Saturday, knocking down many trees around the city.

The utility company says it has brought in crews from Kentucky and Ohio and expects to have about 95 percent of the outages repaired by late Monday.

The weekend storm had wind gusts topping 60 mph, with utility officials say caused more than 600 separate outages in the Fort Wayne area.
