Boat towing children on tube crashes into Lake Freeman dock

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WISH) — A 71-year-old was injured after a boat towing children on a tube crashed into a dock Thursday afternoon on Lake Freeman.

Police say David Neireiter, 75, of Monticello, was towing two children on a tube when he collided with a dock in the area of East Taylor Trail, causing two passengers in the boat to be thrown forward.

Sandra Neireiter, 71, also of Monticello, was transported to White Memorial Hospital to be examined for a chest injury. The children on the tube and others on the boat were not injured.

Investigators believe the driver, David Neireiter, was distracted by the children on the tube and did not see the dock.

The law requires drivers to be accompanied by an observer to keep an eye on anyone being towed by the boat.
