Marion man dies after fireworks accident

MARION, Ind. (WISH) – A man from Marion died this weekend after an accident involving fireworks.

According to the Marion Chronicle Tribune, the Marion Police Department received a call Saturday night about an accident on South Washington Street.

Grant County Coroner Chris Butche said 41-year-old James Drake was shooting off fireworks in a parking lot before the accident.

Butche said he thinks Drake approached one of the fireworks and it went off, hitting him in the face. Drake suffered burns and extensive trauma to the face and was transported to Marion General Hospital where he died. His death has been ruled accidental.
