Dozens return to waterlogged homes in Wayne Township

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Dozens of people returned to their homes for the first time Wednesday to survey damage caused by Tuesday’s flash flooding.

Volunteers from American Red Cross went door-to-door filing disaster assessments along Biltmore Avenue and Manhattan Avenue in Wayne Township.

Water had receded by late Wednesday morning but the damage left behind could be found once inside Myrna Delgadillo’s and her neighbors’ homes.

Delgadillo has lived in the 800 block of Biltmore Avenue for more than 40 years. She described the process of cleaning her home and saving possessions as overwhelming.

Supportive community members were on hand in the neighborhood.

The outreach pastor for Lakeview Church set up a tent and grill to provide lunch for residents.

Mike Vance also gave away cleaning supplies and offered a listening ear for people he said most often require emotional support in such situations.

Anyone affected by the flooding should call the Red Cross at 888-684-1441
