Moped driver dies after crash in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One man is dead after a moped crash Saturday morning at the intersection of West Dupont Road and Oak Trail Road in Fort Wayne.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, police arrived at the scene just after 6 a.m. and found a man in critical condition.

Police made several attempts to revive the man with CPR and an automated external defibrillator until medics arrived. He was taken to the hospital by EMS where he later died.

Police are do not know what may have caused the moped driver to go off the road and crash into a grassy area west of the intersection. Police are investigating whether drugs, alcohol or a medical condition contributed to the crash.

The identity of the victim and the cause and manner of death will be released by the coroner’s office at a later time.

A helmet was found near the driver. Investigators are unsure if the driver was wearing it.
