Plainfield tries to dry off after flooding

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — People in Plainfield are picking up the pieces after flood water surged through their neighborhood Tuesday night. One of the hardest hit areas in the town was the Whitmore Place neighborhood.

That’s where multiple people captured photos and videos of the floodwaters filling the street.

Michelle Moss said she was trying to dry out her mother’s car Wednesday. Her mom is afraid to drive it because it was partially underwater during Tuesday’s storm.

“Everything’s all wet. The seats are wet,” Moss said. “It was actually pretty scary and just amazing that it could happen so quickly. Really it was just a matter of a couple hours.”

Across the street, a second car got soaked.

It all happened on garbage day, sending trash floating through the area. Most of it was cleaned up by noon Wednesday.

“Neighbors pulled together and cleaned up the neighborhood,” Moss said. “We like to keep a nice, clean neighborhood here.”

The storm started when Moss was at work. She said, at first, she feared flooding would force her to stay somewhere else.

Despite all the water, Moss and her neighbors say their homes weren’t damaged.

“It was nice to be able to come home and sleep in my own bed,” she said.
