Salvation Army hands out 500 backpacks in Fountain Square
Summer break is winding down, and thoughts are turning toward going back to school.
The Salvation Army helped hundreds of kids Saturday get ready for the first day of class.
The organization handed out backpacks and school supplies to more than 500 students who live in Fountain Square.
The event also linked families to community organizations that can help them get ready for the school year.
It’s the first of several back-to-school events the Salvation Army will hold over the next two weeks.
