Hit and run victim still recovering, suspect not caught
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The search continues for a man wanted in connection to a hit and run that left a bicyclist injured.
It happened near the intersection of Keystone Avenue and 71st Street on the north side of Indianapolis.
The victim is hoping that the suspect will do the right thing and turn himself in after knocking her over from her bicycle and running over her arm.
“Honestly, I was looking around and I looked at my hand and moved my fingers,” said Kathi Duncan. “I was like, it can’t be broken because I can move my fingers.”
Duncan was looking forward to her weekly bicycle ride to Monon Trail with her boyfriend, but instead she spent the Sunday after the Fourth of July getting checked out by the doctor.
“My boyfriend actually made a joke because when the doctor told me I couldn’t ride for a while, he said I got teary eyed,” said Kathi Duncan, the hit and run victim.
Duncan’s boyfriend took a couple of photos of her injuries after the hit and run.
In some of the photos, the evidence of the tire marks is still visible.
“It made me mad that they didn’t actually at least stop and say hey are you okay?” said Duncan. “That frustrated me a little bit that they actually drove off.”
Duncan said she suffered from a concussion, bruises and contusions to her left arm.
“Honestly at the time, I just really didn’t know what to think,” said Duncan. “I was just more trying to figure out what just happened.”
Duncan said it all started at the Speedway gas station. She told police she was riding her bicycle south on Keystone Avenue when she saw the driver pulling out.
“I don’t know if they just didn’t look both ways before they pulled out,” said Duncan. “When the car pulled out and I wasn’t able to brake fast enough before they pulled out.”
Police released photos of the suspect Wednesday afternoon. The photos were captured from a security camera inside of the Speedway just moments before the incident.
Workers at the gas station told Duncan’s boyfriend that the driver is believed to be a regular customer.
“If they don’t pay attention and to just not care on another person’s life and actually stop to say are you okay? I mean, I don’t know that’s just not right,” said Duncan.
Duncan’s boyfriend told 24-Hour News 8 that detectives said they have received several tips on the suspect.
