Car theft apology note doesn’t keep teens out of trouble

GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) – A note apologizing for damaging a stolen car wasn’t enough to keep two southeastern Indiana teenagers out of trouble with the police.

Greensburg police say a 19-year-old and 16-year-old face criminal charges in connection with stealing the car on July 9 and taking it on a joy ride during which it was slightly damaged by hitting a sign.

The Greensburg Daily News reports the woman who owns the car found its keys in her mailbox later that day, along with a sticky note apologizing for the damage and saying the car was in a nearby parking lot.

Police Capt. Bill Meyerrose says a tip led investigators to the 19-year-old and that they found items stolen from the Greensburg High School football field in his apartment.
