Study: Marijuana helps bones heal faster

A new study from Tel Aviv University suggests another medical breakthrough for marijuana.

(MEDIA GENERAL) – According to a new study from Tel Aviv University, marijuana helps broken bones heal faster.

The study, published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research last week, stated rats with broken bones healed much quicker when given a non-psychotic marijuana component, cannabidiol or CBD. Also, rats treated with a cannabidiol not only healed faster, but their bones were stronger and less likely to suffer a repeated fracture.

Dr. Yankel Gabet, from TVU’s Bone Research Laboratory told the Times of Israel: “We found CBD alone to be sufficiently effective in enhancing fracture healing. Other studies have shown CBD to be a safe agent, which leads us to believe we should continue this line of study in clinical trials to assess its usefulness in improving human fracture healing.”

Medical marijuana is an exploding field in medicine, but quite limited in the United States.
