Boil order for 90,000 water users in southern Indiana

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A water company serving 31,000 households and businesses in southern Indiana has advised them to restrict non-essential water use and to boil any water used for consumption.

Indiana American Water Co. issued the advisory Saturday for its customers in Clark and Floyd counties, both located just across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky. It says the total population it serves there is more than 90,000 people.

The utility says a 36-inch water transmission line in Jeffersonville broke Saturday morning.

The company says it hoped to restore service to most customers in Jeffersonville and Clarksville by Sunday afternoon, but not to those in New Albany until Monday afternoon at the earliest.

The utility’s southern Indiana operations manager, Bill Reedy, says the break affected a 5-foot-long section of the main.
