Busy weekend downtown could cause parking problems

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Gen Con is in full-swing for the 12th year in a row in Indianapolis, but Friday that crowd will combine with mobs of adolescent girls planning to attend the One Direction concert at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Gen Con alone is drawing about 60,000 people.

According to Visity Indy, those folks are coming from all 50 states and 40 countries and have sold out hotel rooms in the city.

The One Direction concert could draw in a matching 60,000 with the capacity in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Along with the concert and Gen Con there’s also an Indians game Friday night at Victory Field.

There is some parking at Lucas Oil Stadium and Visit Indy provides a list of about three dozen public parking structures within the downtown area, but with the crowds that are expected tonight downtown, those spots will fill up quickly.

Tourism experts say you should plan plenty of extra time in order to find a parking spot and be prepared to walk several blocks to get to the stadium or the Indiana Convention Center.
