Franklin police investigating multiple school break-ins

FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — Police in Johnson County need help locating several people who they believe broke into two Franklin schools.

Franklin police believe the break-ins happened in July. Franklin Community Middle School and Franklin Community High School were both targeted in the break-ins, according to 24-Hour News 8’s partners at the Daily Journal.

Officer say the high school was targeted by a man on July 13 where a safe and three digital cameras were stolen. According to surveillance footage, the suspect entered the building from an outside door with a key. The suspect stayed in the school for about an hour before taking off with the stolen items. Police say the man had his faced covered with a Butler Bulldogs T-shirt.

School officials reported that the batteries from a generator were stolen form the school by another burglar. Officials at the school say they were not sure when the batteries were stolen. Police believe the burglary likely happened on July 13 but they don’t believe the thief was the same person.

Just two weeks after the high school was broken into the middle school was targeted on July 26. Police say two people entered the school through a latch door on the roof. The men stole snacks from the cafeteria but didn’t take anything of value. Locked doors helped prevent the thieves from stealing anything else.

Police posted a surveillance photo on their Facebook page and have received several tips. However, they have made no arrests in the cases.

Police do not believe the burglaries are related.

The school district plans to increase security at the school building and find ways to keep people from climbing to the roof.
