Horse race, fireworks show planned for Friday night

ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) – Friday is a big night at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino, as the annual Dan Patch & Thrillyard 200 get underway.

The race, named after the horse that broke a world record in 1906, carries a $300,000 purse. In addition to the racing, there will be BBQ food, drinks and a fireworks show. A zip line and helicopter rides will also be available for entertainment.

Dan Patch lived from 1896 to 1916. At the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, where he set the world record, efforts are underway to install a bronze sculpture in his honor. It should be in place by next year.
