Former Lake County Judge Arredondo eyeing AG nomination

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A former Lake County judge has formed a campaign committee to seek the Democratic nomination for Indiana attorney general.

The (Munster) Times reports Lorenzo Arredondo of East Chicago filed his declaration of candidacy with the secretary of state’s office late last week.

Arredondo, who served on the bench for 34 years, was the longest-serving Hispanic state trial judge in the nation when he stepped down in 2011.

Arredondo currently is the only declared Democratic or Republican candidate for attorney general. Republican incumbent Greg Zoeller is seeking the 9th District congressional seat.

The attorney general nominees of both major political parties will be selected by delegates at their state conventions next summer.

Former Republican Attorney General Steve Carter of Lowell, who preceded Zoeller, has formed an exploratory campaign committee.
