Police: Muncie mom drove child after smoking pot

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) – A Muncie woman was arrested this week after police say she had marijuana in her system while she was driving her child.

According to a release from Indiana State Police, around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday a trooper stopped a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu near Tillotson and University avenues after noticing the car had a headlight out.

Officials say as the trooper spoke to the driver, identified as 28-year-old Lorie P. Branson, he noticed her 6-year-old sitting on a back seat booster seat without being buckled into the seatbelt.

After investigating, police determined Branson was driving impaired from smoking marijuana. She was arrested and preliminarily charged with two counts of operating while intoxicated and one count of endangering a minor.

She was taken to the Delaware County Jail. Her child was released to family members.
