Trapuzzano honored for helping others after husband’s murder

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis woman pushed in the public spotlight after the murder of her husband was honored Saturday for using her person tragedy to help others.

Jennifer Trapuzzano received the Angels of Grace Award from the Sisters of Saint Benedict in Beech Grove.

In April 2014, her husband, Nathan, was shot and killed during a morning walk, just three weeks before the couple’s first child was born.

“After he died, I didn’t even want to utter the word ‘widow.’ It was too much,” she said Saturday. “I was three weeks away from being a single mother, and I still thought it was just a nightmare, a really bad dream that I was going to wake up from; because this couldn’t be my life.”

Since the tragedy, she’s started a Facebook page for young Catholic widows like herself.

The group has grown from four members to 30 people.
