Vincennes man rehabilitates bald eagle

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) – The Indiana Department of Natural Resources captured an incredible photo Monday of Angel Lange, the Vincennes wildlife rehab specialist, as he worked with an injured bald eagle.

DNR Officer, Joe Haywood, snapped a few photos as Lange worked with the iconic species.

Officers say the Eagle was injured after it was hit by a vehicle in Pike County. While in Angel’s care, the bird was expected to visit a veterinarian Tuesday.

Lange is known for utilizing his backyard to foster, rehabilitate, and care for Indiana’s injured wildlife. He has been doing this for more than 40 years.

Lange said, as part of his duty, he must keep logs of all of the animals he receives. In many cases, DNR officers bring Lange injured animals found along highways and in the woods. To date, Lange says he’s welcomed 77 animals to his refuge. All of his work to rehabilitate the animals is voluntary; which he funds out of pocket.

“I’ve had black bear, I’ve had cougars, had African lions, I’ve had badgers from Daviess County,” Lange said in an interview with WTHI-TV in July.

The goal of Lange’s refuge is to return the animals to their natural habitat and keep human interaction as minimal as possible. While Lange does hand feed the injured animals, he also keeps his distance, so animals do not warm up to him.
