University keeps basketball arena parking for disabled fans

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – The University of Evansville says it will make all parking in front of its basketball arena available to people with disabilities on game days.

The university had initially decided to direct the program’s largest donors to the same lot.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports that officials will try to find different accommodations for the basketball program’s donors as the new season unfolds. The donors’ former lot south of the Civic Center is not available because of construction downtown.

The arena’s 68 parking spaces are usually full for home games. City-County Building Authority Director David Rector says fans with disabilities need the spots. He says the parking privilege is abused in some cases.

The basketball team’s first regular season home game is Sunday.
