Electricians prepare Monument Circle for holiday light display

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Monument Circle is dressed up for the holidays, but you won’t get to see her sparkle for a couple of weeks.

About 200 electricians with IBEW 481 spent their Saturday morning stringing lights on the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Monument in advance of the Circle of Lights.

“This is what you do for a living,” Julia Saltsgaver, executive director at Quality Connection, said. “They deal every day with major construction and service projects for electrical work, and they’re using that same skill and craft today to install the decor so that everything is in its place and works as it should when we count down and do the lighting.”

That lighting will happen the day after Thanksgiving.

It takes 4,784 lights and 52 strands of garland to decorate the Circle for the holidays.
