Thieves steal toys meant for underprivileged kids
KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — Toys that would have gone to children in need on Christmas were taken from Crossroads Community Church’s warehouse. The disappointing discovery was made Tuesday morning when volunteers showed up to prepare the items.
“We are always willing to help someone. We reach out to all. It makes me so sad that someone did this,” said church member Kristin Thompson.
Some of the donations that went missing include gift cards, iPads, drones and other popular toys. It’s a total loss of around $3,000.
The only items that didn’t go missing were clothes, food and basics the church makes available to 150 families on a monthly basis. Those same families would have picked up holiday gifts for their children at prices they couldn’t afford elsewhere. All of the high-priced items were priced under $5.
“The warehouse building is dedicated to helping people. We only charged a few dollars so parents would feel like they participated in buying something special for their child. I hope whoever did this has a change of heart and returns everything,” said Pastor Kevin Smith.
Crossroads Community Church is now left scrambling if the items aren’t returned. They still plan to open Dec. 15 between 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
