Greenfield second grader collecting blankets to give to homeless

GREENDFIELD, Ind. (WISH) – A second grader from Mt. Comfort Elementary collected more than 100 blankets to give to the homeless.

Eight-year-old Hunter Lenk took the initiative to collect the blankets, and as of Monday he had collected over 125 blankets. Hunter plans to deliver the blankets in January to individuals who are homeless. He said he plans to take the rest of the blankets to Wheeler Mission.

This isn’t the first time Hunter has collected blankets. Last December he received 105 new and used blankets. His parents also started a non-profit organization called “Hunters Hugs.”

Hunter came up with the idea after talking to his step-mother. He simply wanted to help them when they are cold. He said, “When we’re all cold they have to be really cold.”

Anyone who would like to help Hunter can drop off blankets at Mt. Comfort Elementary School during school hours this week. His parents will also meet to pick up blankets. You contact Jordan Kiser at 317-490-9730, or Brittany Garrity at 317-519-0271.

The blankets will be donated after the first of the year. Next year the family hopes to include hats and gloves in the donations.
