22 marijuana plants seized in grow operation
WATERLOO, Ind. (WANE) – A man is facing charges after nearly two dozen marijuana plants were found in his home. Paulus Gene Sheets was arrested after a DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputy was following up on a separate investigation in the 400 block of South Oak Street in Waterloo on Sunday, January 3.
According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, the deputy was speaking with Sheets when he noticed a strong smell of raw marijuana in the house. The Waterloo Police Department and the deputy later served a search warrant at the residence.
Officers found a marijuana grow operation and 22 marijuana plants. An 11-year-old girl was living at the home where the operation took place. Grow operations can be dangerous to residents in a home because of mold and spores from the plants, according to investigators.
Police also found and seized a large amount of marijuana growing equipment, drug paraphernalia, prescription medication, and a large amount of raw marijuana.
Sheets is being held on an $8,000 bond the DeKalb County Jail. He’s facing the following charges:
- Dealing Marijuana-Misdemeanor
- Possession of Marijuana-Misdemeanor
- Possession of a Controlled Substance-Misdemeanor
- Maintaining a Common Nuisance-Felony
- Neglect of a Dependent-Felony
- Possession of Paraphernalia-Misdemeanor
