INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Crispus Attucks High School boys’ basketball coach Phil Washington has been suspended, Indianapolis Public Schools confirmed Friday afternoon.

IPS says Washington will “continue to serve the students of IPS in another capacity.”

An IHSAA official told 24-Hour News 8 that Washington was involved in allowing students to participate in activities with the basketball team prior to them transferring from a school in Anderson.

Here is the full statement from IPS:

“Mr. Washington was suspended from Crispus Attucks pending an internal investigation related to an IHSAA investigation. The district took this measure to ensure continued eligibility of our student athletes in the Crispus Attucks Boys’ Basketball program. IPS does not speak to the specifics of personnel matters, but can confirm Mr. Washington will continue to serve the students of IPS in another capacity.”

IHSAA says it strongly supports Washington’s suspension and is working to determine if further sanctions are necessary.
