Northeast side home damaged in early morning fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a working vacant double residence fire Friday on the city’s northeast side.

IFD officials say the fire started around 3:30 a.m. in the 3500 block of Leland Avenue. That’s near 34th Street and Emerson Avenue.

The fire was under control around 4 a.m. after firefighters used an aggressive attack to put out the flames. Due to the heavy fire the roof partially collapsed and floor joists were compromised.

No one was injured in the fire. IFD estimates the damage of the fire to be about $60,000.
