Who benefits from frigid temperatures?

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The owner of a local plumbing company says his team has already responded to more than two dozen calls related to cold weather this week.

“That started about four to five days ago, when the weather started,” Means said. “Today (Tuesday), we’ve got pretty much every call related to the ice.”

Means said the cold weather doesn’t equate to a business boom, but it does change the kind of work he and his employees do.

Josh Mitchener, on the other hand, said the cold weather is one reason Fusek’s True Value just had two of the busiest days in the store’s history. Mitchener is the manager of the downtown hardware shop.

“We’ve got more salt and shovels in today, and we also have a bunch more coming in tomorrow in anticipation of the cold weather,” Mitchener said.

Both Mitchener and Means said they expect the cold weather to keep them busy with their work.

Experts say you can let your pipes run in frigid temperatures to help prevent freezing, and you can open your cabinet doors beneath your sink to let heat from your home reach the pipes.
