HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – The Humane Society of Hamilton County needs your help locating the person who left a puppy outside their shelter in subzero temperatures on Monday.
Officials say someone drove up to the shelter and dumped the puppy inside their fenced in area around 7 a.m. The dog was left outside for almost an hour without any shelter before help arrived.
Luckily the medical manager for the society came in early at 7:40 a.m. to find the puppy. She said the dog had hypothermia, a large gash in her head and a jump rope tied around her neck.
The vet said the dog is now warm and happy. It’s believed the gash in her head is about one day old.
Staff members believe the dog is about three months old. They’ve named her Miri.
The humane society is hoping to find Miri a foster home. They also want to find the person responsible for leaving the dog and posted surveillance video of the car entering the parking lot.
WE NEED YOUR HELP: Sometime between 6:57 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. this morning, a car drove into our parking lot, pulled up next to our outside fenced in area, and dumped a 3 month old puppy over the fence. It was -4 degrees. Our staff arrives at 8:00 a.m., but luckily our Medical Manager came in today at 7:40 a.m. She found the puppy to be hypothermic, had a large gash in her head and a jump rope tied around her neck that had gotten tangled in our play yard equipment.
We have named this precious girl Miri, and we believe she is a 3 month old Pit Bull. She is now warm, fed and happy as can be. The vet next door estimated the gash on her head to be just a day old. We would love for Miri to go to a foster-to-adopt home (to allow her head wound to heal). She could go to any type of home as her temperament is amazing.
The video below is grainy – but we’re hoping that someone recognizes the car or the puppy, and can help us bring this person to justice. We are open 7 days a week and there is simply no reason this puppy couldn’t have been brought to us during business hours. We are so thankful we arrived in time to find her. Please share – this person needs to be found.
Anyone interested in giving Miri the life she deserves should come in and meet her (we’re open until 5pm). Anyone with information about the person who dumped her should contact Hamilton County Sheriff’s Dispatch (317) 773-1282.Posted by Humane Society for Hamilton County (Indiana) on Monday, January 18, 2016
