Prosecutor dismisses ticket issued in crash that killed driving teacher

TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – The Tippecanoe County prosecutor has dismissed a traffic ticket that was issued in a crash that killed a driving instructor earlier this month – at least for now.

Pat Harrington said that the ticket for texting while driving given to 24-year-old Nicholas Salem of Clinton County was filed automatically by the sheriff’s deputy, which is standard procedure.

But because of the serious nature of the crash, prosecutors are dismissing the ticket pending the results of the ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office. Based on those results, prosecutors could refile the ticket or file criminal charges.

Paul Foster, 69, was killed when the car he was riding in was hit by Salem’s pickup on Jan. 16.
