Third Terre Haute armed robbery suspect arrested in Indianapolis

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The third suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery case has been arrested.

WTHI confirmed Daekwon Garrett, 17, was arrested Thursday afternoon at his home in Indianapolis. Both the Terre Haute Police Department and U.S. Marshals were looking for Garrett.

On Jan. 13, Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call where a victim reported being forced into a vehicle at gunpoint. The victim then stated that three black males robbed him and forced him to another residence in Terre Haute where it was alleged that the three suspects continued on to rob more victims at gunpoint.

Court documents show the victim reported the three black males to be dressed in all dark clothing. The victim also stated that while inside the suspect’s white Cadillac with paper/temporary plate on it, two of the suspects pointed handguns at him while the third pointed an AK-47 at him.

Josef Cannon, 23 of Indianapolis, and Adrian Green, 25 of Indianapolis, were arrested and booked into the Vigo County Jail on Jan. 13 after a vehicle pursuit ended when the vehicle (white Cadillac with paper/temporary plate on it) crashed behind Gavilon Grain (also known as Graham Grain) on South U-S Highway 41.

Cannon and Green were arrested in connection with the two armed robberies that happened earlier that morning.

The first was just before 1 a.m. when police were called to an armed robbery at the Marathon station located at 13th and Locust. Terre Haute Police said the suspect was a black male, wearing a mask and a grey or black hoodie. About 10 minutes later, THPD was called to the Phillips 66 Jiffy on North 3rd Street. They reported two black males robbed the store, one was armed with an AK-47 while the other had a handgun.

Police reported they were still looking for the third unknown suspect who fled – but was later identified as Daekwon Garrett.

“This last arrest was due to hard work by the Sheriff’s detectives and great inner-agency cooperation with the Terre Haute City Police and the US Marshal’s Office,” Vigo County Chief Deputy John Moats said.

Garrett was arrested for criminal confinement, kidnapping and robbery while armed with a deadly weapon Thursday around 3 p.m. and then booked into the Vigo County Jail before 11 p.m.

Court documents also show that Garrett had been expelled from Terre Haute North Vigo High School last year for pulling the fire alarm.

Vigo County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts told WTHI that even though Garrett is 17, he will be charged as an adult because of the nature of the charges.

He is scheduled to appear in Division 3 court Friday morning.
