Indianapolis, Covanta agree to suspend recycling center contract

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Mayor of Indianapolis announced on Wednesday that the deal previously reached with the recycling center, Covanta, has been temporarily suspended.

“Leadership begins with listening, and I believe Indianapolis deserves a true community conversation before we move forward with any waste and recycling plan,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “I appreciate Covanta’s willingness to agree to this effort as we work toward a long-term solution that best serves our neighborhoods and our environment.”

Hogsett also announced that the city will spend with next 90 days gathering information to potentially reassess the plans for the recycling facility.
