Indiana’s high court to hear appeal in quadruple slaying
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The state’s highest court is taking up the appeal of a southern Indiana man sentenced to life in prison in the shooting deaths of four people.
The Indiana Supreme Court was set to hear arguments Thursday morning in Samuel Sallee’s direct appeal of his February 2015 conviction on four counts of murder.
A Bartholomew County jury convicted the 58-year-old Columbus man in the May 2013 killings of three men and a woman in Waynesville, a small community outside Columbus.
Sallee was sentenced to life in prison without parole in the killings of 39-year-old Thomas Smith; his 53-year-old girlfriend, Katheryn Burton; and two friends visiting their Waynesville home, Aaron Cross and Shawn Burton, both 41-year-old Columbus residents.
Sallee has denied committing the killings, saying the victims were his friends.
