Company dealing with major job cuts with Carrier move

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There is more fallout from the news that a manufacturing plant for Carrier will be moving operations to Mexico.

This week’s announcement means 1,400 people will be jobless. The plant is located on West Morris Street in Indianapolis.

24 Hour News 8 is with a company in Cleveland Ohio who says they will be impacted too. The name of that company is Morrison Products.

A union rep called us to say they will be taking a major loss because of the move and workers there will be laid off too.

The company was founded in 1923. They make fans for heating systems, ventilation and air conditioning units. One of their biggest customers is Carrier.

Bobby Chrasniak, a union rep says now that Carrier will be moving to Mexico the companies will no longer be doing business with each other and that means about 40 employees will lose their jobs.

“I was called into a meeting with the supervisors and the president of the company broke the news that Carrier would be moving to Mexico. They told us that they were going to do what they can to try to replace that work, said Chrasiniak.”

As for carrier, the move will take place from 2017 to 2019.

Carrier is not the only heating and cooling company in Indiana to announce moving operations to Mexico.

United Technologies Electronic Controls also announced Wednesday that it will be moving its Huntington manufacturing operations south of the border. That move will cost 700 people their jobs by 2018.
