Local man shows patriotism in unique way

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — What is a patriot? The dictionary defines “patriot” as a person who loves and strongly supports or fights for his country. One local man’s patriotism is sounding loud and clear.

We met Chris Fred along US 40 in Plainfield. US 40 is known as the National Road, and on Saturday it was even more national.

“I started doing these marches about three months ago, in November,” Fred said.

Every other Saturday, Fred straps on his drum, hoists the American flag on his shoulder and marches up and down Main Street.

He’s a Landscaper Monday through Friday, but on the the weekends?

“This is the way that I serve,” Fred said.

“I’m a percussionist and I’ve played percussion since I was about 13,” he added.

It’s his way of honoring those who fight for our freedom.

“I dedicate my time. I could be doing other stuff; I have hobbies,” Fred said.

“This is for my country and for all the people driving down the road,” He added

The National Road — where on every other Saturday an American patriot can be found.

“It’s the best place there is to be; this is the best place there is to be. This is our country, America,” Fred said proudly.

Fred also hands out pocket U.S. Constitutions to those who walk by. He said he will continue to beat his drum hoping that his message and his love for America is clear.
