Hit and run driver faces a judge

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Deana Shumaker faced a judge this morning. Currently she is facing charges of criminal recklessness, and leaving the scene of a serious bodily harm.

On February 12th, Shumaker is accused of driving her SUV into Griener’s Sandwich Shop intentionally. During the impact police say she struck Anita Scruggs, a long time employee of the Fountain Square restaurant.

According to court documents, Scruggs is still recovering at a local hospital, and she has a long road to recovery. Scruggs’ friends have started a GoFundMe account to aid with some of her bills and have already raised more than $3,000.

“We are upset and sad for her, it’s tragic that someone was in the building,” said Owner of Super Shark Sammy Jr.

There have been questions about Shumaker’s mental stability. She will go through a bail hearing on Monday at 1:30 p.m.

24-Hour News 8 reached out to Shumaker through the Marion County Jail on Monday afternoon. However, she declined our request for an interview.

There has been no timetable on when Griener’s will reopen.
