Police: Man crashes into garage after chase

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — A man faces several charges after Columbus police say he crashed his vehicle into a garage Friday following a chase.

A Columbus police officer reportedly attempted to pull over Tyler S. Houchens, 20, on 25th Street around 11:15 a.m.

Police said Houchens had a warrant for his arrest and refused to stop. He allegedly sped away into a busy school crossing area and police cut off the chase.

A short time later, Houchens crashed into a garage in the 1100 block of 24th Street, according to police.

Houchens’ vehicle reportedly pushed a parked vehicle through the garage wall.

Police said a bag of methamphetamine was found in Houchens’ vehicle.

Houchens allegedly fled on foot and was taken into custody in the 1500 block of 21st Street.

Houchens was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

  • Operating without ever receiving a license (Class C misdemeanor)
  • Possession of methamphetamine (Level 6 felony)
  • Criminal recklessness with a vehicle (Class B misdemeanor)
  • Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle (Level 6 felony)
  • Leaving the scene of an accident (Class B misdemeanor)
