Lt. Governor makes resignation official

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) – Indiana Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann officially submitted her resignation letter on Monday to Governor Pence and the General Assembly.

According to a press release, her resignation will be effective on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

In February 24-Hour News 8 announced that she would be stepping down to clear the way for a much anticipated shake-up to Gov. Mike Pence’s re-election.

Pence has chosen former Indiana GOP Chairman Eric Holcomb.

Ellspermann signaled her intent to resign in December, when she announced interest in pursuing the open position of president of Ivy Tech Community College, which she has since applied for.

Pence’s selection of Holcomb was announced this month, bringing a close to Holcomb’s is 11-month campaign for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Dan Coats.
