Pence, Carrier executives to meet about Mexico move

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Governor Mike Pence plans to meet with Carrier executives on Wednesday in hopes of keeping more than 1,000 jobs.

The Indianapolis manufacturing facility, announced plans to move their operations to Mexico in February. The move would impact 1,400 jobs.

A representative for Pence’s office said he will meet with executives to get them to stay.

Carrier, said they will be moving operations to Monterrey, Mexico beginning in 2017. The move is expected to be complete in 2019. A release by the company said there would be no immediate impact on jobs.

On Tuesday, Indiana House members approved an amendment that would allow local government to take back incentives if corporations move operations to a foreign country. State Rep. Karlee Macer said she hopes it sends a strong message to corporations that you can’t just pick up and leave when you want.
