Zionsville woman nearly kidnapped at knifepoint at her apartment

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Police are searching for a man who tried to abduct a woman at knifepoint Monday.

It happened in broad daylight at the Domain at Bennett Farms apartment complex in Zionsville.

A woman took her trash to the dumpsters behind her apartment when a man in a white van pulled up around 11:30 a.m.

According to Zionsville police, a Hispanic man got out of the van, grabbed her from behind and placed a knife or box cutter to her neck.

He tried to drag her to the van, but she managed to escape and ran to the apartment front office for help.

Police arrived but the man had already fled.

“You think you’re fine, but evidently something like that can happen during the day, so you kind of worry,” apartment complex resident Dylan Schultz said.

He said he’s had issues with petty crime in the past.

“I’ve had my car broken into and rummaged around; I had an old cell phone in there they actually took,” he said.

But hearing details of Monday’s attack gives him new concerns. He said it makes him think twice about going to the dumpster area alone and he’s concerned about his neighbors.

“It certainly makes me worry about some of the people working out because I see guys and girls running out of the gym alone,” he said.

The apartment front desk staff said they haven’t notified residents yet, but that they are cooperating fully with police in this investigation.

Schultz hopes the apartment adds more security and is doing everything he can to not become a victim.

“We always lock our doors, so that’s the only thing we can try to do,” he said.

The police are now looking for a Hispanic man with a shaved head and light facial hair, about 5 foot 8 inches or 5 foot 10 inches.

He was driving a white “boxy” type van with no windows and a ladder on top.
