UConn women’s basketball attempts to make history

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The UConn women’s basketball team looks to make history, but they will have to deal with a curve ball thrown their way.

The Huskies will head into the national championship game without freshman starter Katie Lou Samuelson, who suffered a broken foot in their national semi-final win over Oregon State.

“We’ve been hit by injuries leading up to this moment in the final four that have derailed some great teams that we’ve had, but it’s never happened you know, here between both games,” said Geno Auriemma.

“The one thing I did say to her last night was, ‘Well this will make you work even harder to make sure that you get back so that you’ll get a chance to have your time but right now it’s not your time, it’s somebody else’s time,” the UConn women’s coach said.

“You never want to see a teammate go down and especially someone who works as hard as Lou does but obviously we just kinda got to keep moving through it and someone else has to step up kind of in that sense and it’s not even an individual person stepping up it’s each and every person just raising their level of play a little bit more,” said Kia Nurse.

Samuelson averaged eleven points for UConn and while she will be missed, these seniors are that much more motivated to win it all come Tuesday night.
