Dept. of Justice investigating claims of voter suppression in AZ

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An investigation into claims of alleged voter suppression in Arizona is underway.

Democratic lawmakers and activists said there were no polling places in some Latino neighborhoods and working-class.

Voters in Maricopa said they waited hours to vote in the March 22 primary.

There were 60 polling stations in that county, compared to at least 200 in 2012.

Republican officials said some polling stations were shutdown to save money.

A spokeswoman for the Maricopa County Recorder denied it was intended to suppress voters.

Republican governor Doug Ducey said the situation was unacceptable.
