Officer injured in crash while responding to standoff

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Police said an officer who was responding to a standoff was injured in a crash.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 12:45 p.m. to W. Jefferson Boulevard and Liberty Mills, just west of I-69.

Authorities at the scene said the officer with Fort Wayne’s hostage negotiation team was responding to a call. They said the officer drove down Liberty Mills with her lights on when she was struck by another vehicle while trying to make a right onto Jefferson Boulevard.

An officer at the scene said she was pinned inside her patrol car. She was extracted from her vehicle and listed in serious condition.

Police restricted traffic around Jefferson and Liberty Mills during their investigation.
