2 dead following Howard County crash

HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) Two Kokomo residents are dead after a crash Thursday in Howard County.

Indiana State Police and the Howard County Sheriffs Office responded to a two-vehicle crash just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 22 and County Road 400 East in Howard County.

Preliminary investigation revealed 86-year-old Robert Hostetler, of Kokomo, was driving south on CR 400 East and stopped at a stop sign at SR 22, but troopers said he failed to yield to the highways oncoming traffic. Hostetler pulled out in front of 22-year-old Doran Jessup, of Kokomo. Troopers said the Jessups minivan hit the drivers side door of Hoststlers car.

Robert Hostetler and his passenger, 86-year-old Beth Hostetler of Kokomo, both died from injuries suffered in the crash.

A minivan passenger, 23-year-old Jeremy Jessup of Kokomo, was taken to an area hospital with internal injuries and later transported to an Indianapolis hospital. Authorities said he is expected to survive. Jessup was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation. At this time, neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
