2 children escape south side house fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A house fire spread to two other homes on the south side of Indianapolis Monday evening.

Firefighters were called to a house on White Lick Drive near Meridian Street and I-465 around 9:20 p.m.

Two boys were inside when they heard the fire alarm.

21-year-old Alex Smith and his 16-year-old brother called 911, according to an Indianapolis Fire Department official.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw flames from the first and second floor.

The two boys escaped, but a pet rabbit is missing. Firefighters said the kids’ mother went to work about an hour before the fire started.

One person received a minor injury.

The fire caused between $200,000 and $300,000 in damage to the three homes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
