Police: 2 shot, 1 dead in connected shootings on eastside

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police say two people were shot on the east side early Thursday morning.

Police were called to a gas station at the intersection of 21st Street and Shadeland Avenue around midnight, where they found 18-year-old Oscar Gonzalez who had been shot in the back. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Shortly after, officers were called to the Knights Inn Motel near the gas station where they found a man shot in the leg. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition.

According to police, witnessed told them the altercation took place outside the hotel room in the parking lot.

After detectives investigated both incidents, they determined they were related and that the two gunshot victims had been involved in an altercation with one another in the parking lot of the Knights Inn hotel.

Police are not releasing the second victim’s information at this time.

The Marion County Coroner will be assisting in the investigation to help determine the cause of death.
