Man leads police on high-speed chase through 3 counties

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A man who authorities call a habitual traffic violator led police on a high-speed chase through three Indiana counties Sunday.

William Dilts, 30, of Nineveh was speeding on I-65 in Johnson County around 7:15 a.m. when a trooper tried to pull him over, according to Indiana State Police.

Dilts fled and continued on I-65 for nearly 20 miles before exiting onto U.S. 31 northbound. He drove north into Amity, western Shelby County and then Edinburgh.

When stop sticks flattened three of his tires, Dilts jumped out and took off on foot, according to ISP. He was quickly found in a back yard.

Dilts faces preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness and operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator.

No one was injured and the chase did not damage any property, ISP said.
